UDC Pro ECS-Raptor for Embedded Server Control Debuts from High Resolution Systems

High Resolution Systems' UDC Pro ECS-Raptor

High Resolution Systems has introduced UDC Pro ECS-Raptor, a UDC Pro embedded control server designed for permanent AV installs. Raptor teams up with the company's popular UDC software to offer a cost-effective, stable hardware/software solution for long-term installations in a wide range of environments. It will begin shipping in February.

A Linux-embedded server, Raptor significantly lowers costs to users over full-blown Windows servers while significantly lowering power usage. "Raptor comes with a free version of UDC software so customers can build their control configuration with UDC software, load it onto Raptor and run it," says Drew Taylor. "Most customers will likely pay for an upgrade to UDC Pro software, which allows them to send all their commands from UDC software on the Windows computer before loading onto Raptor for faster configuration and debugging the control system on the fly."

Raptor comes with an Ethernet connection to the device network plus four RS232 serial ports and one USB port for control. It occupies 1RU in height and one-half of a rack in width and ships with an optional rack shelf for space-saving rack mounting. "Raptor is so compact that other equipment can fit on the rest of the shelf -- interface boxes, DAs, or even another Raptor for multiple room control," Taylor explains.

Raptor supports the same user interfaces as UDC software: iPad touch control with the HRS Control Pro iOS app available in Apple's App store; the HRS Control Pro app for any Windows tablet; in-wall mount touchscreen and button solutions; Android tablets; and web servers. Any device with a browser can act as a controller.

High Resolution Systems is currently completing its first installation featuring Raptor. A Raptor will be dedicated to an executive briefing room with the need for extensive device control. A second Raptor will meet the needs of the rest of the facility. "Even with two Raptors, this is still a very cost-effective solution for the integrator taking up a single rack space while keeping power consumption to an absolute minimum," Taylor notes.

High Resolution Systems will showcase Raptor at NAB 2013 and InfoComm13.
