Henry V Conquers Best Lighting Design at Helen Hayes Awards

The Helen Hayes Awards were presented April 21 at a ceremony held at the National Building Museum in Washington, DC, where Andrew F. Griffin took home the award for outstanding lighting design, resident production for Shakespeare's history play Henry V, presented by Folger Theatre.

The sound design award for a resident production went to Eric Shimelonis for 1st Stage's Never the Sinner.

Outstanding set design, resident production went to Clint Ramos for Woolly Mammoth Theatre Company's production of Appropriate.

The award for costume design was presented to Merrily Murray-Walsh for Mary T. & Lizzy K., presented by Arena Stage.

Aaron Posner's Stupid F*cking Bird, also presented by Woolly Mammoth Theatre Company, received eight nominations and took home the awards for Outstanding Resident Play and Outstanding New Play or Musical.

Outstanding Resident Musical was shared by Olney Theatre Center's A Chorus Line and Hello, Dolly!, which was presented by Ford's Theatre and Signature Theatre.

The award for innovative leadership in the theatre community was given to Adele Robey and Julia Robey Christian, co-founders of the Anacostia Playhouse. The award was presented in partnership with The Washington Post.
