A Theatre Project: An Autobiographical Story by Richard Pilbrow Now Available on LSA Website

Subtitled A Backstage Adventure: Triumph, Disaster, and Renewal that Changed Stage Lighting and the Shape of Theatre, the book is the story of both Richard Pilbrow's life and of Theatre Projects, the company he founded over 50 years ago. "It is the tale of a dream . . . one that came true with audacious success, turned into a nightmare, but emerged again to endure and enjoy success around the world," he explains in the introduction.

It tells the story of an upstart company that began on a shoestring budget under the stage of Her Majesty's Theatre, London and went on to extraordinary success. A Theatre Projectwill launch at the ABTT trade show in London on Wednesday, June 15 at a 3pm book signing on the ABTT Lawrence Hall Stand #115. Copies will also be available on the PLASA Media InfoComm Booth #5271 in Orlando, June 15-17.

Theatre Projects shook up the world of British theatre, establishing the professions of lighting and sound design and theatre consulting, and becoming the world's leading theatre design firm. A Theatre Project takes the reader through the stage door, sharing the thrills of producing in the West End and lighting on Broadway, becoming part of the birth of the National Theatre with Sir Laurence Olivier, and traveling the world as theatre designer.

Experience adventure and drama backstage: pioneering developments in lighting and sound; war stories on the road to Broadway and the West End; working with Harold Prince, Julie Andrews, Judi Dench, and Paul Newman; and discovering Topol. A thrilling entrepreneurial success is followed by over-expansion, which leads to disaster, a struggle for survival, and renaissance. A reborn Theatre Projects circles the globe, designing theatres with architectural superstars such as Frank Gehry and transforming modern theatre spaces with classic concepts. A Theatre Project is a spellbinding backstage adventure that will challenge, provoke, entertain, and inspire all who love the magical world of theatre.

"The author of the book happens to be one of my favorite folks of all time. I can barely imagine any time more enjoyably spent than in reading what follows in the book . . . He is the MASTER . . . and, thank heaven, wonderfully silly with it. My life has benefitted immeasurably from his being embroiled in it, as my closest friend and colleague."

- Tony Walton

"A Theatre Project is also a window into one of the secrets of Richard Pilbrow's success and that is collaboration. No theatrical endeavor, whether it is a performance, a theatre, or performing arts center can be realized without collaboration . . . It is a true honor to call him a colleague and I must admit that his generosity and perseverance inspire. No one embodies the best of this crazy world of the theatre more than Richard Pilbrow."

- Joseph Volpe

A Theatre Project is published by PLASA Media, New York and London With thanks to A Theatre Project corporate sponsors: JR Clancy, ETC, Philips Entertainment, Rosco, Stage Technologies, White Light, and Wybron
