Sew What? Inc. Honored as a 2012 Top Business by DiversityBusiness.com

Custom theatrical drapery manufacturer Sew What? Inc. has been recognized by DiversityBusiness.com as one of their 2012 "Top Business" awardees. The award will be presented during the organization's National Business Conference held in Mashantucket, Connecticut, April 25-27.

A woman-owned business located in Los Angeles County, California, Sew What? Inc. is committed to diversity and multiculturalism. Its CEO, Megan Duckett, has participated in numerous events promoting entrepreneurship within ethnic and disadvantaged communities. In November, as part of President Obama's National Entrepreneurship Month, she spoke to low-income students in Compton, California about her experience as an immigrant and small business entrepreneur turning a home-based business into a thriving enterprise.

"This award from DiversityBusiness.com is both a great honor and another validation of what we're striving for, which is to inspire people to see past their barriers to create new opportunities," said Duckett. Her own path to success began as a 19-year-old Australian immigrant, launching her sewing business from the kitchen of her home. Sew What? now produces custom and digitally printed backdrops, custom scrims, curtain tracks, pipe and drape systems, and other soft goods supplies for stage, film and television productions, as well as rock and roll tours, fashion shows, trade shows, and other special events. In addition, their sister company, Rent What? Inc., also located in Los Angeles county, provides rentals of theatrical drapes, drops, curtains and supplies to the entertainment and special events industries.

Making the "Top Business List" is a significant accomplishment, according to DiversityBusiness.com. The list offers the most comprehensive look at the strongest segment of the United States economy -- America's privately held companies. The award is intended to inspire, motivate, and empower others to follow the lead of the awardees, while shining a spotlight on the companies who have achieved this award.

Sew What? was similarly recognized by DiversityBusiness.com in 2009, having been named one of the top 500 Small Businesses in the United States and one of the top 100 small businesses in California.
