Elation's Platinum Beam 15R Pro Takes Popular ACL Effect to Next Level

Elation Professional's Platinum Beam 15R Pro

When Elation Professional introduced its groundbreaking Platinum Beam 5R last year, the ultra-bright, compact ACL beam effect quickly became a favorite of lighting designers, appearing everywhere from high-profile events like Super Bowl XLVI Village and the 2012 Southern Baptist Convention, to major concert productions like Drake's Club Paradise Tour, to world-class nightclubs such as New City Gas in Montreal.

Now Elation has taken this popular moving head beam to its next stage of evolution with the new Platinum Beam 15R Pro, which offers even brighter output, sharper optics, and more features than the original. Like its predecessor, the Platinum Beam 15R Pro is powered by an advanced Philips MSR Platinum lamp -- only in this case it's the higher-output Platinum15R model, which delivers brightness comparable to a 1,200W discharge lamp, making it ideal for larger venues and applications. Yet, this little dynamo measures a compact 13.7"L x 14.9"W x 22.4"H ( 350 x 380 x 570mm) -- not much bigger than the original -- allowing it to fit comfortably in installations with even the tightest spatial constraints. What's more, it consumes a maximum of 500W of electricity -- less than half the power used by discharge fixtures with equivalent output.

Like the original, the Platinum Beam 15R Pro produces a razor-sharp, narrow searchlight-type ACL beam that can cut through wash lights and other visual effects. This bright, tight beam lends itself to a variety of applications, including video and broadcast use, since it pops out with high definition and distinguishes itself from the other lights, according to the company. For even greater versatility, the Platinum Beam 15R Pro's hard-edge 4.8-degree beam angle can be diffused by applying the unit's variable frost filter, allowing it to function as a two-in-one hybrid wash effect.

The Platinum Beam 15R Pro has also been given some exciting new features, including a built-in EWDMX wireless DMX receiver, which, when used with an Elation EWDMXT wireless transmitter (sold separately), can receive DMX signals wirelessly from up to 3,000' away. Not only does this eliminate the time and labor involved in running cable, but the unit's wireless capability combined with its small size make the Platinum Beam 15R Pro the perfect solution for use in small spaces where a bright, narrow, tight beam is required.

Other new features include a remote focus and an integrated DMX recorder with edit function. Additionally, Platinum Beam 15R Pro users can receive software updates via DMX using the optional e-loader, ensuring they'll always have the latest version.

Designers will be able to unleash their creativity to the fullest with the Platinum Beam 15R Pro, since it's packed with effects and features, just like the original. It includes 10 dichroic colors, 17 gobos, (eight rotating/indexing, nine static), two gobo wheels, variable speed gobo scrolling in both directions, an eight-facet prism, a macro-function for rotating gobo/prism combinations, variable speed strobe effect, dual-flag mechanical dimming system, and 630- or 540-degree pan and 265-degree tilt.

"The response from lighting designers to Elation's original Platinum Beam 5R has been totally overwhelming," said Eric Loader, director of sales for Elation Professional. "It's been a huge success with all types of users and applications -- special events, concert tours, stage productions, sporting events, nightclubs, houses of worship, video broadcast, you name it. After experiencing this tremendous demand for a modern-day ACL beam effect, we decided to come out with a higher-output version. The new Platinum Beam 15R Pro produces an ultra-bright 106,400 lux at five meters and is equipped with even more cutting-edge features to bring out your design creativity."

Offering great flexibility too, the Platinum Beam 15R Pro can be operated in four modes: DMX-512, stand-alone, sound-active, and master-slave. There are three different DMX modes to choose from (14-, 16-, or 22-channel), with customizable DMX channel assignment. The unit is equipped with 3-pin and 5-pin XLR serial input/output for linking.

Other premium features on the Platinum Beam 15R Pro include anti-reflection coated lenses; three-phase motors for fast, accurate pan/tilt positioning; automatic pan/tilt position correction; and a battery-powered color LCD display. The Platinum Beam 15R Pro also features cooling fans that can be regulated automatically or via DMX, a constant temperature readout/management function, an electronic ballast, and auto switching power supply (AC 100V-240V, 50/60Hz).

Meeting the highest safety standards, the Platinum Beam 15R Pro is cETLus approved.
