Loteria: Game On! Lights Up the Stage with MEGA-LITE In May, San Antonio-based Magik Theatre brought the beloved Mexican game Loteria to life in a bilingual, family-friendly stage adventure. Loteria: Game On! follows siblings Sam and Kris as they journey into the enchanted world of Loteria to rescue their father, where they encounter iconic characters from the traditional game, including El Gallo, La Mano, and La Rana. This colorful adventure was illuminated and programmed by lighting designer Jordan Armstrong, who utilized an array of MEGA-LITE fixtures to create a visually stunning experience. The lighting setup included: ten MW1s, one Framebot 600s, four MS1s, 14 N-E Pixstrip H216s, four Drama LED W50s, two Drama VW2s, one Nova lite UV, one H6 hazer, one Mega Node, and eight PieLite Multibeams. The lighting was used in a variety of ways. Moving effects were created with the MW1, a unit featuring powerful step motors that allows for fast and slow movements with a 540-degree pan and 270-degree tilt. The PieLite Multibeams were placed on the back platform as audience blinders using seven 60W RGB + cool white LED 4.5-pixel beams with individual control. The H6 Hazer, a fog machine that uses water-based haze nectar, added an air of mystery and heightened anticipation throughout the transition to the game show, the company says. Armstrong says, "The Framebot's wide beam angle with high output was impressive, and the versatility of the MW1s was a huge use. The PieLite's bright and sharp beam, combined with the haze, gave the illusion of an expanded set. The color quality on all fixtures used helped create a vibrant and saturated look to the show." In addition, six MEGAVIEW Falcon Panels were installed at the center of the stage, serving as the visual focal point of the Loteria world. Under the direction of video designer Mickey Raley, the iconic cards were brought to life in a display of animation and lighting. These panels are well-suited for both production and rental use, offering quick installation, 800 nits of brightness, and a 3.9mm pitch for high-resolution visuals. MEGA-LITE cites Thaddeus Morris for his supervision of the lighting design, adding that it "reaffirms its commitment to supporting local talent and helping Magik Theatre bring every story to life, brightly and brilliantly."
