Tait Sets a New World Record for London 2012 Landscape Video Display

London Olympic Games Opening Ceremony 2012

Tait Technologies has been awarded a Guinness World Records title for the world's largest landscape video display. Consisting of 634,500 individual pixels, Tait's pixel tablet debuted at the London 2012 Olympic Opening Ceremony on July 27, 2012 and was used with stunning effect at all other ceremonies during the games.

Throughout the ceremonies, the audience were able to hold Tait's pixel tablet in their hand, becoming part of the vast seamless ring of images surrounding the stadium seating area. Tait created 70,500 tablets, one for each stadium seat, integrating the audience into the ceremony performance. Opening Ceremony artistic director Danny Boyle worked with Frederic Opsomer, CEO of Tait Technologies on his vision of turning the audience into a giant canvas.

"The assembly of dispersed LED pixels to form very large video images has been with us for some time," explained Opsomer, who drove the development of landscape video. "But never before has it been done on such a scale, and with such organic animation."

As well as setting a new world record for the largest landscape video display, the development of the pixel tablet opens unlimited opportunities for the use of this type of large scale LED technology in stadium video displays and architectural environments.

"We think this is a blank canvas that event organizers are really going to enjoy," says Carol Scott, director of sales and marketing, Tait Technologies. "Having resolved the logistical problems down to manageable and affordable proportions, this becomes a realistic tool with which to enhance your event communication."
