Elation Introduces the Platinum Beam 5R Extreme with Improved Optics, Speed

Elation's Platinum Beam 5R Extreme

Elation Professional's Platinum Beam 5R extreme ACL/beam moving head has been a defining light at some of the most high-profile events over the past year, from the Super Bowl XLVI Village and the 2012 Southern Baptist Convention, to Drake's Club Paradise tour and the KIIS-FM Jingle Ball Holiday concert. Now the company says, Elation is building on the incredible popularity of this brilliant searchlight-type effect with the unveiling of the next-generation Platinum Beam 5R Extreme.

Like the original, the Platinum Beam 5R Extreme is an intense concentrated narrow-beam effect, but it moves at faster speeds than its predecessor and features improved optics and a new remote focus.

The unit's ramped-up speed is due to new three-phase motors that have been incorporated into its design. Propelled by these engines, the Platinum Beam 5R Extreme's effects will generate even greater impact and excitement.

Thanks to advances in its optical design as well, the Platinum Beam 5R Extreme also achieves new levels of brightness and output, the company says. Its intense narrow three-degree beam produces 100K lux at 15m. The improved optics, combined with the unit's added remote focus, produce more razor-sharp extreme ACL projections.

Another new feature on the Platinum Beam 5R Extreme is a wireless DMX option. The unit comes with an optional EWDMX receiver inside, which can receive DMX signals wirelessly from up to 3,000' away.

"What you liked about the original Platinum Beam 5R is present in even greater intensity in the new Platinum Beam 5R Extreme," said Eric Loader, director of sales for Elation Professional. "It's faster and brighter, and the new remote focus feature lets you create even sharper ACL beams. Lighting pros in all areas of design have been really impressed with the way the original Platinum Beam 5R could cut through washes and other lighting effects with its bright, tight beam. The 'Extreme' version takes this extreme ACL concept even further, so we're anticipating a tremendous response to it."

"Plus it offers a wireless DMX option, which gives our professional customers added design flexibility. It comes with an antenna transmitter included; users just have to add the receiver card," Loader added.

The Platinum Beam 5R Extreme continues to offer the full complement of pro features found on the original, including: 12 colors; CTO, CTB, and UV; eight rotating, indexing gobos; an eight-facet rotating prism; a dimmer and strobe; and full DMX operation. The unit can be operated in three different DMX modes (12-, 14-, or 18-channels), and it is equipped with three-pin and five-pin DMX connectors.

Another thing the Platinum Beam 5R Extreme shares with its predecessor is its ultra-efficient Philips MSD Platinum 5R lamp. Running on just 189W, the 5R lamp uses a fraction of the energy consumed by a discharge moving head of comparable output. Another advantage of the 5R lamp is that it allows the design of fixtures that are extremely small and lightweight. The Platinum Beam 5R Extreme measures just 8.9" x 12" x 16.5"/ 225 x 310 x 420 mm, and weighs 39.6 lb. / 18 kg. Its compact size makes it easy to transport and install, saving time and labor. cETLus approval is pending.
