3-Legged Dog Forms 3LD Special Projects Group; Garrett Linn Joins as Lead Video Designer

3-Legged Dog executive producer Kevin Cunningham announces that filmmaker Garret Linn has joined 3-Legged Dog as lead video designer of special projects for 3LD Special Projects Group.

"Mr. Linn's background as both an art house filmmaker and video designer for premiere corporate brands like MTV, Apple, Swatch, and Bumble & Bumble makes him the perfect fit to lead 3-Legged Dog's newly formed 3LD Special Projects Group," explained Cunningham.

The newly formed 3LD Special Projects Group is a program of 3-Legged Dog, Inc. focusing on large cross platform multi-media design development, creation, installation, and consultation. The program capitalizes on 3-Legged Dog's areas of specialization: creating integrated cross platform media design, large-scale multi-media event and performance design, and management and the creation of multi-media large-scale artworks including immersive environments, interactive media design, 3D imaging, 2D and 3D film making, and large-scale holographic imagery.

3LD Special Projects Group uses technologies and methods developed for 3LD's not-for-profit artistic endeavors (large-scale multimedia experimental theater productions and immersive interactive artworks). 3LD Special Projects Group develops custom design-and-build teams from their extensive international community of artists and technicians tailored to the creation of custom commissioned artworks for clients in all sectors from architecture installations to large scale designs for film and entertainment industries.

3LD Special Projects Group grew out of the demand for these specialized works of art that were commissioned by various organizations. Past commissions include the Costume Institute Gala, the Public Theater, The New York Public Library, Lady Gaga, American Express Foundation, National Trust for Historic Preservation, the Museum of Modern Art, BAM, and Vice Magazine.

Linn has worked variously as a director, editor, cinematographer, graphic designer, and visual technology consultant for 29 years in New York, Paris, London, San Francisco, and Berlin. Starting out as an assistant director and animator he found a personal niche creating animations for MTV, Hearst TV, Swatch, and others using various non traditional techniques blended together; Xerox, collage, video manipulation, stop motion, and computer-based sources. In 1991 he was asked to direct a feature length documentary on the jazz group John Lurie and the Lounge Lizards, which Variety called "enlightening" and the New York Times said was "engaging." He was the head of new media for Bumble & Bumble, where he created a multimedia production department from scratch, developing the ideas of DIY media creation. These efforts lead to helping to rebrand the company's image with a direct and craft oriented style along with new materials for use in teaching the corporate philosophy and techniques to the company's extended network. Most recently, he has been working with visual artists and architects interested in using new and developing technologies in their work, specializing in high definition video, multi-screen installations, and computer technologies. Some current projects have been for Marjetica Potrc, Michael Joo, Tavares Strachan, Martin Beck, Jason Simon, and others.

Founded in 1994 by a group of artists at the Ontological-Hysteric Theater, the company says 3-Legged Dog is at the vanguard of the experimental arts scene, creating live, immersive performance experiences that blend the digital and real worlds. With innovative use of technology, 3-Legged Dog explores new narrative possibilities through large scale, immersive art projects that break down boundaries between live performance, film, visual art, and installations. Since opening its new facility, 3LD Art & Technology Center the company has continuously created large-scale cutting-edge works and supported the work of 700 artists a year from around the world.

Recent awards include Official Selection of the 2013 Sundance Festival, Venice Biennale, Featured Work in the Prague Quadrennial, The Hewes Design Award from the American Theater Wing, and a Drama Desk Nomination among others. The company has been twice awarded the Rockefeller Foundation Cultural Innovation Award.
