d&b audiotechnik at Prolight + Sound

d&b audiotechnik booth at Prolight + Sound 2013

d&b audiotechnik experienced a successful Prolight + Sound 2013. The company premiered the latest addition to the V-Series, with a complete range of Vi installation loudspeakers, as well as the new d&b ArrayCalc V7, for audio mapping.

The Vi additions, Vi8, Vi12, and Vi-SUB all conform to the existing V-series loudspeakers in every facet of technical performance, but have simplified rigging and electrical connections that adhere to the highest installation expectations. The Vi8 and Vi12 loudspeakers are three-way passive designs housing two 10" LF drivers, one hornloaded 8" MF driver, and two 1.4" exit HF compression drivers with 2.5" voicecoils mounted to a dedicated waveshaping device. They have an 80- and 120-degree horizontal constant directivity dispersion respectively, which is maintained down to approximately 250Hz. The Vi-SUB is an actively driven cardioid subwoofer powered by a single d&b D12 amplifier channel and houses two long excursion neodymium drivers in an integrated cardioid setup, an 18" driver in a bass-reflex design facing to the front and a 12" driver in a two chamber bandpass design radiating to the rear.

The new ArrayCalc V7 includes functionality to perform acoustic simulations with a number of d&b point source loudspeakers, most notably both the White range installation point source products from the xS-Series and the Black range point source loudspeakers from the Q, T, and E-Series. ArrayCalc V7 now simplifies the process of creating remote control workspaces for line arrays as well as point sources, via an export function into the d&b R1 Remote control software. It also offers a new print out section that will include the point source loudspeakers and an array collision detector. The sophisticated additional algorithms address the requirements for a d&b style simulation and planning tool for a complete installation project, as well as for corporate and AV rental markets. It is designed to be used where hybrid designs that included a mix of point source and line array loudspeakers used to be a much harder task.

"There are times when navigating the complex demands of professional audio require an instinctive sense of direction," said Werner 'Vier' Bayer, the d&b long-time Black range product manager. "That doesn't mean we should abandon an empirical resolution. The decision to implement a full range of Vi loudspeakers is a rational response to the almost irrational demand this product line has engendered. The inclusion of point sources to ArrayCalc V7 as the system designer's tool kit brings helpful clarity for any audio professional negotiating the twists and turns of system design."
