Theatre Students: Find Potential Grad Schools at LiNK

Student registration is open now for the second annual LiNK theatre grad school recruiting event to be held Nov. 13 - 15 in Atlanta.

LiNK, presented by USITT and SETC, drew 48 colleges and universities to Atlanta last year to interview and audition potential grad students for advanced degree programs in performing arts design and administration.

Students considering advanced degrees in acting, directing, theatrical design, technology, and management can meet with schools offering those programs at the Atlanta Airport Hilton the second weekend in November.

The Hilton offers room rates under $100 a night for LiNK, and the $40 student registration includes networking opportunities, such as Friday night's LiNK Soiree sponsored once again by Focal Press.

SETC executive director Betsey Horth says the first LiNK in 2014 attracted 80 students and received great reviews. "We plan to build on that success and grow the graduate school auditions and interviews this year," she says.

LiNK is designed to provide the most affordable and convenient recruiting event for aspiring theatre grad students in the nation, says USITT executive director David Grindle. "It is vital to USITT's mission to support continuing education," he says.

The event's timing allows students and colleges to connect early in the school year. The Atlanta Airport location allows participants to get off a plane and be at the hotel in minutes.

"Centrally located, easy to get to, and inexpensive makes this the go-to event for potential students," Ivan Ingermann, associate professor of Theatrical Design and Costume Design at the University of Georgia, says of the inaugural LiNK.

This year LiNK expands from Friday-Saturday to add Sunday for more interviews and auditions. Already planning to attend are Virginia Tech, Florida State University, Boston University, University of Alabama, the Stella Adler Studio of Acting, and The George Washington University, among others.

Interviews/auditions will be offered in acting, directing, stage management, arts management, scene design, costume design, lighting design, sound design, technical direction, stage technology, lighting technology, costume technology, and production management. Institutions pay $125 to participate and can register here: https://netforum.avectra.com/eWeb/DynamicPage.aspx?Site=USITT&WebCode=EventDetail&evt_key=a8bbc95a-d962-4f18-92da-1873bdb19cb3.
