The Latest Costume-Making Trends at Stage|Set|Scenery 2019

Messe Berlin

Be it a theatre, opera, film, or concert performance, no production is perfect without costumes and make-up. In combination with stage design, lighting, furnishings, and naturally the performers, it is why audiences are able to delve into an imaginary world. Thus next year's Stage|Set|Scenery, the international trade show and conference for theatre, film, and event technology, will be devoting a special section to costume-makers again. Companies, universities, and training establishments representing costume-making will be exhibiting in Hall 22 at the show which will take place from June 18 - 20, 2019, on the Berlin Exhibition Grounds.

The hall plans have undergone a major redesign in order to better meet costume-makers' needs. A custom lighting concept as well as busts that will be available on request will highlight the costumes on show to great effect. At the same time the fees for fully-equipped stands will target an audience that is made up mainly of smaller firms. Juliane Trempler, the project manager of Stage|Set|Scenery: "With this concept we are delighted to be able to offer costume-makers a fitting platform for presenting every aspect of their profession."

On all three days of the show the Palais am Funkturm will be the venue for specialist costume-makers' events and a lively exchange of views. Once again, Stage|Set|Scenery will be partnering with Gesellschaft der Kostumschaffenden (GTKos). GTKos provides a platform for everyone involved in the costume-making profession at theatres and other event venues in German-speaking countries, including theatre and film costume-makers who are self-employed, artists, and the skilled trades. Topics at these events will include costume design, props, robemaking, women's hatmaking, as well as production management, tailoring, and shoemaking. One of these events will be the annual general meeting of GTKos. Angelika Laubmeier, a board member of GTKos, had this to say: "The fact that we can hold our AGM at Stage|Set|Scenery is an added bonus for this event. It gives us an opportunity to cultivate relations with our suppliers, meet new ones, and to exchange views with members of other production areas."

In 2019, in order to fully integrate costume-makers into the exhibition, a guided tour will take visitors directly to exhibitors' stands. Firms representing the costume-making profession can also apply to hold a lecture at the Anatomical Theatre in Hall 22, which is located in close proximity to the exhibition.

Stage|Set|Scenery has an especially attractive offer for schools which specialize in costume-making. Schools will be able to host their presentations on a stand that will be free of charge. Furthermore, for the first time students will be able to gain a glimpse of experienced lecturers' skills in a special studio area, and also try out things for themselves.
