USITT Inducts Three New Fellows in Salt Lake City

Stephanie Young, Dave Will, Rachel Keebler were inducted at Fellows of the Institute by USITT.

USITT inducted three accomplished members as Fellows of the Institute on March 16 at USITT 2016 in Salt Lake City.

David W. Will, Rachel Keebler, and Stephanie Young became the first members to be named Fellows since 2012. They join 74 other Fellows who have devoted years of their careers in the arts to benefit USITT.

Dave Will, manager of facility resources for Penn State University's College of Arts and Architecture, has been an active member of USITT since 1988. He has served as management commissioner, on the conference steering committee, and most recently as vice president for conferences from 2009 through 2014, helping lead USITT's Annual Conference & Stage Expo to unprecedented growth.

Rachel Keebler is co-founder, owner, and director of the famed Cobalt Studios scene-painting shop and school in White Lake, New York, a sustaining member of USITT since 1996. She has exhibited at and taught scene-painting workshops at USITT's Conference & Stage Expo for decades. In 2013, she received the USITT Distinguished Achievement in Education Award for Cobalt's role in training expert scene painters.

Stephanie Young retired as head of the stage management program at California Institute of the Arts last year after 30 years in that role, 17 while also serving as Assistant Dean for CalArts' school of theater. She has been active in USITT since 1980, serving either on the board of directors or as an officer for 20 years, 1992-2012. She currently serves on USITT's grants and fellowships committee.

The trio received the revered title of USITT Fellow and the signature red ribbon that Fellows wear to denote their role as experts and mentors in their fields. Among the Fellow duties at USITT 2016 is to hold an open mentoring session for students and young professionals. That session took place March 17 from 1:00 - 2:30pm at the Salt Palace Convention Center.
