W-DMX Celebrates 100-Year Discovery of Machu Picchu

Wireless Solution Sweden AB sent the award-winning W-DMX technology to Peru to play an important role in the 100-year anniversary of the discovery of the existence of the Quechua citadel of Machu Picchu in 1911 (100 AƱos del Redescubrimiento de Machu Picchu) by explorer Hiram Bingham.

Machu Picchu, also known as the "Lost City of the Incas", is perhaps the most familiar icon of the Inca World located 7,970' above sea level, situated on a mountain ridge above the Urubamba Valley in Peru -- not the easiest site for a lighting installation.

The celebration involved lighting the historic city with a vast array of color from high atop the mountains. Two W-DMX F-1 G4 transmitters and receivers were used to send signal to 40 Philips Vari*Lite VL3500 Washes, 20 VL3000 Spots, 20 Martin Professional Atomic 3000 strobes and two Strong Super Trouper 2K followspots. Gian Franco Di Vitto was the lighting designer and Andres Cuadros was the equipment consultant. An MA Lighting grandMA2 ultra light was used to control lighting programmed by Martin Tolentino with a High End Systems Wholehog III used to control the conventional lighting. Equipment was supplied by Red Power Peru.

The W-DMX system provided the communication between the consoles and the rig with the console and the luminaries located approximately 1,640' apart.

"We're always so happy when W-DMX is used on such historic celebrations," said Niclas Arvidsson, CEO of Wireless Solution, "The team was extremely pleased with the reliability and ease of use of our system."
