d3 Technologies Strengthens Links with APAC Community

d3 Technologies has reinforced its ties with the APAC community with a four-part Asia Pacific tour. The tour combined user visits and an academic trip to multiple universities with d3 certified training and the introduction of a new d3 team member.

Stephen Tsui made his first swing through the region since joining d3's APAC team, in late November, as regional sales manager. The tour gave him a chance to meet and interact with d3 resellers, industry influencers, and professionals.

Tsui has 19 years of sales experience in the telecom and media spaces. For the last ten years he held regional sales positions at various media solution providers, including ContentWise, Minerva Networks, and Viaccess-Orca. He is a graduate of the Chinese University of Hong Kong with a BS degree in computer science.

The tour also certified Hank Liu, technical manager, of d3 reseller Redline Technology Beijing Co., Ltd., as the d3 trainer for the China market. "It is an honor to truly become part of the d3 trainer community, which consists of leading industry experts and professionals," says Liu. "The certified training is a recognition of my professional level and capability to nurture and educate the market, which also is our main responsibility as resellers. As you can see, the whole industry is thirsty for good talent."

Trainee Lai Weijian, technical manager of E-GO Computer Graphics, says the two-day session "let us feel Hank's passion for the technology and the industry. d3 software shows us how to achieve more creatively, and we hope to have more opportunities to use d3. The interactive demonstration of d3, the BlackTrax tracking system, and the Notch real-time workflow was the highlight of the training. It showed us even more possibilities for applications and effective delivery. We are looking forward to future diversity and innovation from d3."

In early December, d3 team members visited the Academy of Arts & Design at Tsinghua University, the National Academy of Chinese Theatre Arts, and the Central Academy of Drama, all in Beijing, plus Jilin College of the Arts in Changchun and the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts. Presentations focused on technologies in development, including camera-based projector calibration, generative content, tracking, collaboration, visualization, and more; projects in which d3 played a key creative role, were also showcased.

At Jilin College of the Arts, the d3 team was invited to the launch ceremony for the first 3D mapping competition in China. It will take one year to organize the competition, from marketing, to the final evaluation and d3 will sponsor three dongles to the winning team.

Fu Haoyue, department head of the digital space design faculty at Jilin College of the Arts, reports that d3's visit and presentation "brought a visual feast to our teachers and students and delivered the latest in contemporary visual creativity and stage arts. It provided constructive comments for our digital space design faculty, making the digital space teaching and scientific level reach a new height, while building a solid foundation for the next step in our cooperation."

d3 wrapped up the tour with key user visits with N Dimensions Media and Yuning Brothers in Beijing; Huelead, AV Promotion, and Hibino in Shanghai; and Ptarmigan in Hong Kong. The in-person visits enabled the d3 team to discuss users' experiences, address what they are looking for in new technology and applications, and collect feedback on how to improve software and feature sets.
