American Audio's New ELX Series Power Amps Deliver Pro Features

American Audio's ELX series power amps

Bands, clubs, DJs, theatres, churches, and entertainers looking to beef up their sound system without breaking their bank accounts should check out the new ELX Series of power amplifiers from American Audio (AA). Consisting of three models -- ELX2000, ELX3000, and ELX4000 -- the ELX Series provides professional features, such as XLR inputs and Speakon outputs, along with consistent audio performance.

According to the company, the newest members of AA's Value Series of "no-frills" affordable audio products, the ELX amps, are ideal for use as main speakers or monitors by users who are watching their wallet, but still needs a professional-caliber power amplifier that delivers day in/day out, reliable sweet-sounding audio. Each model offers a wide frequency response of 20Hz - 20kHz, which gives it the ability to generate finely detailed audio from booming lows to tweeting highs. With a Total Harmonic Distortion of less than 0.1 percent, users will get clean, clear sound at all volume levels.

The main difference among the ELX2000, ELX3000, and ELX4000 is their level of output. In bridged mono mode at 8ohms, the ELX200 offers 300W, while the ELX3000 provides 500W, and the top-of-the-line ELX4000 outputs 800W. With these options, the ELX Series has enough versatility to cover everything from the most intimate social gatherings to mid-size nightclubs to full-throttle dancehall rave-ups, the company says.

All models include volume knobs and meters on the front panel. Users can run virtually any audio source through the ELX Series power amplifiers' in/out/through connections, including turntables, laptops, iPods, and CD players. Each model features balanced XLR inputs, Speakon and Binding Post outputs, a high-powered fan to keep the unit cool, and a convenient ground lift switch to help minimize any buzz that might occur with various types of power sources. Specifications include a slew rate of 20V per microsecond and impedance of 20K Ohms in balanced mode.

"Our ELX Series was designed to fill the demand for high-quality power amplifier with all the features needed to put on a professional performance, at a down-to-earth price that's within reach of working bands, DJs, neighborhood clubs, theatres, and churches," said Tom Freret, national sales manager for American Audio. "We're very pleased with how well the ELX Series has met this goal. It truly occupies a unique niche in the market in terms of its price point versus its impressive audio quality and user features."

The ELX Series feature a distinctive illuminated crystal blue front panel that glows in the dark. This jolt of shimmering electric blue is indicative of how the ELX amps will add a shine to any venue or performance.

ELX Series power amplifiers are compact and extremely portable, which makes them suitable for mobile entertainers, concerts, and touring production. Each unit measures 19"L x 13.75"W x 3.5"H (483mm x 345mm x 88mm), so they'll take up only two spaces on a standard rack and leave plenty of room for other essential audio gear. Users will also appreciate their lightweight construction: The ELX2000 is just 23lb. (10kg), the ELX3000 is 25lb. (11kg), and the ELX4000 is 27lb. (12kg).
