Martin Audio's US Open Day to Demonstrate Sound Control in Open Air Martin Audio's US Open Day takes place at the Amphitheatre in Doral Central Park, Florida, on Thursday, October 8, with identical sessions at 11am and 2pm. Demonstrations include WPC, WPS, and WPM from the Wavefront Precision optimized line array series, the constant curvature arrays of TORUS, which suit throws of 50' to 100', and the premium point-source FlexPoint, which handles both fills for larger systems and performance-based installations for smaller venues. Without walls to contain sound, visitors can hear how, at real distance, the systems hold level and coverage right across a site while preventing the audio from escaping beyond the boundaries, as demonstrated at the recent Pickathon festival in Oregon. That control comes from a combination of prediction and optimization delivered by DISPLAY, the company says. System designers set the SPL and frequency response required at points across a site, and the software determines the array configuration and sound propagation that will deliver them. Users can also define non-audience areas and, in areas of high control requirements, can set Hard Avoid zones (using the company's proprietary software feature), which reduces sound by up to 30dB at that point, so promoters can predict with confidence whether a design sits within a noise limit, the company says. The same capability answers an installation brief, because a reflective back wall, a balcony edge or a low ceiling all present challenges to coherence, and Hard Avoid handles them by keeping energy off that reflective surface. Wavefront Precision enclosures also now carry enhanced rust, corrosion, and UV protection, as well as an IP54 rating, which suits touring inventory and fixed installation alike. "A spec sheet doesn't convey the true capabilities of our systems; you have to experience them in person. Equally, a demo room will tell you what a loudspeaker sounds like, but not what it does at a hundred or 100' or 50'," says Lee Stein, VP, North America. "Prediction and control is what rental and installation companies value, and this venue offers that scope to show off all that Martin Audio can do." Registration is via the Martin Audio events page.
