Pearl Media Productions Brings 3D Video Projection to New York's Maritime Hotel with Hippotizer

3D mapping project on the Maritime Hotel with Hippotomizer HD media servers in New York

Pearl Media Productions (PMP) was given the task of making the Maritime Hotel stand out from the crowd in New York's historic Meatpacking District. Their solution was a spectacular 3D-mapped building projection using Green Hippo's Hippotizer HD media servers and 360,000 lumens of projected 3D media content inspired by pop artist Keith Haring. Four months of development and design for their client, Tenga of Japan, climaxed with the spectacular show on June 28. The four-hour show at the landmark hotel featured three-minute bursts of astounding trompe l'oeil video displays, bringing the entire hotel façade to life with vivid color, pulsating rhythms, and ebullient '80s graffiti-based graphics.

Pearl Media Productions, a subsidiary of Pearl Media, managed and produced the entire project from concept to completion, including media content, installation, operation, and even city permits and landlord negotiations. Media content for the Haring tribute was designed and created by PMP's in-house team of graphic designers. Equipment included four Hippotizer HDs controlled by a GrandMA console and multiple Barco FLM R20 HD projectors. PMP used Live Digital Mix to synchronize the visual and audio elements of the multi-layer display and an animated countdown clock was displayed between show segments.

"We've had a lot of experience with 3D video mapping, and Hippotizer HD was the obvious choice for this art installation," says Scott Justis, PMP's VP, sales and marketing. "Hippotizer provides incredible control, and the flexibility to make changes and necessary adjustments on the fly. Plus it gives us synchronized control of all the other elements of our shows."

"We love the work functions of the Hippotizer," says A. J. Freysteinson, PMP's VP, technology and research. "With a single unit we can control numerous projectors at once, as well as the ArtNet and MIDI outputs for lights and audio! We call Hippotizer our 'everything box'."

TMB is the exclusive distributor for Green Hippo's Hippotizer in The Americas.
