3D-U Universal-Fit Active Ambient Earphones to Debut at NAMM

Sensaphonics' 3D-U universal-fit Active Ambient earphones

Sensaphonics, the technology resource for personal monitoring and hearing wellness, has expanded its Active Ambient line with an industry first, the 3D-U universal-fit earphones. An affordable alternative to custom, the 3D-U will be shown at NAMM 2017 and will begin shipping on February 1st. These new models offer the full functionality of the 3D AARO system, bringing Sensaphonics' patented Active Ambient technology to shared-use applications such as sound rental and house of worship.

Available in crossover-free single- and dual-driver versions, the sleek, jet-black 3D-U earphones use the same proprietary full-range drivers and embedded binaural microphone system found in Sensaphonics 3D Custom IEMs. The 3D-U also marks the introduction of another industry first, the SensaQuad quadraxial cable, which plugs in securely like a coaxial, with four conductors to deliver both the monitor mix and ambient audio. The lightweight, compact earpieces and "fit kit" of eartips ensures a good fit and high-isolation seal.

"Developing this new product was really driven by customer demand," says company founder and president, Dr. Michael Santucci. "Everyone who tries the 3D AARO loves it, but not everyone can afford it. The 3D-U allows us to deliver all the advantages of our Active Ambient technology at a lower price point, and the universal-fit design means one system can serve multiple users -- something that houses of worship and sound rental companies have been asking for."

The 3D AARO system provides full situational awareness, a very useful feature both on stage and off. The ambient earphones capture sound around the user at levels up to 140dB with no distortion, sending it to the 3D system's compact bodypack mixer, where it is combined with the monitor feed. This allows the user to hear everything around them with directional accuracy in all three dimensions -- left/right, front/back, and up/down -- and with both earpieces in place. Thus the name: 3D.

The 3D-U offers the full feature set of the tour-proven 3D AARO, including the full ambient toggle switch for easy conversation with both earphones in place. A stereo record out jack provides access to the ambient mic signal, making it easy to record rehearsals and performances from the wearer's perspective. There are also switches for bass boost and the on-board limiter. This rich feature set makes 3D AARO one of the most versatile IEM system on the market, with applications in studio sessions, DJ gigs, and live recording of rehearsals and concerts. Used without an input, 3D AARO functions as the ultimate variable-level, high fidelity earplugs. The system has also proven popular among music directors, worship leaders, and sound engineers.

"The idea behind the 3D AARO is to let musicians hear everything they want, but with both ears safely isolated from the dangerous levels on stage," says Santucci. "The 3D-U universal-fit earphones bring Active Ambient technology within reach of every serious musician, DJ/producer, and sound engineer."

Pre-order pricing discounts are available on systems ordered prior to the official 3D-U ship date of February 1, 2017.

The 3D-U ambient earphones are being shown at the 2017 NAMM Show in Anaheim, California, January 19 - 22, with live demos at the Sensaphonics booth, 6954 in Hall A.
