Sound Art Adds to Yamaha Console Inventory

Sound Art Calgary uses a Yamaha CL5 and Rios for a YC Youth Christian event.

Sound Art, with offices in Winnipeg, Manitoba, and Calgary, Alberta has added several Yamaha CL and QL consoles to their existing Yamaha production inventory along with Rio input/output boxes. The sound rental and installation company recently provided a CL5 for a YC Alberta Youth Christian Group event held at the Rexall Place Arena in Edmonton where 10,000 young Christians were entertained by international touring acts along with various ministry sessions.

"We chose the CL5 for a couple of main duties," states Dan Frerichs, general manager, Sound Art Calgary. It was the main traffic console that all of the other touring consoles routed through via AES and the system drive for mixing between the large format line array at one end of the arena and then seamlessly fading over to a large in-the-round system for the center stage where the ministries took place."

Frerichs said the built-in Dan Dugan auto-mixing was key for the ministries portion of the event with all of the Countryman mics being used as well as for the amount of outputs available for driving the many zones of speaker clusters that Sound Art used.

Four Yamaha Rio3224-D input/output boxes were used in conjunction with the Yamaha CL5, two at front of house for the center stage wireless and PA outputs via AES, one at the main stage to pick up other mics and sends, and a fourth at center stage for ministries inputs, frontfill, and monitor outputs. "All of these were routed through Luminex switches running redundantly," Frerichs says. "I love the CL5 for complex jobs like this!"

"Yamaha digital consoles are the most rock solid desks in our inventory and remains the most dependable tool in our toolbox," states Dave Cousins, president of Sound Art.
