LDI Award Winners Announced

The winners of this year's LDI Awards were announced at the Las Vegas Convention Center on November 19, during the 2022 edition of the popular trade show.

Among the products honored, enCaption, by ENCO Systems, won in the sound category. The product is described as "a new solution for bringing fully automated, on-site-generated captions to the live event and entertainment industry."

In the widget category, Hubbell's Twist Lock Edge Series was cited for "improving speed and safety for writing and maintain the connectors used in our daily work."

Among special effects products, the winner, The Fab Hazer, from hazebase America, was cited for improvements in fluid and cleaning technology as well as sensors that reveal when more fluid is needed. Honorable mention went to The Smoke Genie, from Inner Circle Distribution.

The winner in the staging and rigging category was Liberty Switch, from Harlequin Floors. It's a professional multi-use floor that can be switched from a rigid theatrical floor to a sprung dance floor at the touch of a button.

A surprise winner in the projection category was the Muxwave Transparent LED Screen by Shenzen Muxwave Technology, thanks to its light weight and almost invisible LED surface.

The Pat MacKay Diversity in Design scholarship were introduced to support the underrepresented and unique voices in the field of entertainment design and are presented in partnership with TSDCA and USITT, for undergraduate students. This year's recipients were Emily Pan, Isaac Castillo, Kayla Chen, Niva John, Renata Finamore, and Sunaina Singh.

The Paky Award, which honors the memory of Claypaky founder Pasquale "Paky" Quadri, went to Donald Holder, whose Broadway lighting design credits include The Lion King; Thoroughly Modern Millie; Movin' Out; The Boy from Oz; Lincoln Center Theatre revivals of South Pacific, The King and I, and My Fair Lady; revivals of Fiddler on the Roof and She Loves Me; Oslo; and Anastasia.

The Sustainability Award was given to hazebase America, for repurposing shipping materials as display furniture.

In the category of booth design, there were several winners. Environmental Lights' sleekly designed setup took the small booth award. Claypaky was cited for creative use of light, thanks to a show that showcased its new products. ACT Entertainment's product presentation was cited, for providing "a great guest experience with a large number of well-placed consoles" and with "lights hung in the air [that] are also in the floor display." Chauvet Professional was cited in the large booth category for, "bringing the outside inside to highlight their IP65-rated gear."

In the lighting controls category, the winner was the ProPlex BuckBoost System from TMB, which "overcomes the cable length challenge of low-voltage LED lighting by centralizing both data and power through a single cable." Earning honorable mention was CRMX Stardust, from LumenRadio, which "has an enhanced radio design that allows for record-breaking ranges on all eight universes simultaneously."

In the category of lighting fixtures, the winner was Sully 4C, a new range of LED zoom profile and Fresnel spots from Robert Juliat, which "allows users to create the exact color and fade characteristics emulating any type of lighting fixture." Taking honorable mention was the Martin by Harman MAC Aura XIP, a moving head wash light "with a radical aura filament effect and full pixel control with video mapping capabilities onto the beam, aura, or both."

LDI 2023 will be held November 12 - 14 in Las Vegas.
