	Riku Kauppinen

Riku Kauppinen, director of business development for MA Lighting, died on August 16. He was 52 and had been battling cancer.

According to a statement from MA Lighting, "Riku was a highly respected and beloved figure in the lighting industry, known for his innovative approach, technical expertise, and unwavering passion for his work." Kauppinen held an MA in theatre and drama with a specialization in lighting design from the Theatre Academy of the University of the Arts Helsinki. He joined MA Lighting International GmbH in 2009 as a regional sales manager; he was promoted to director of sales -- a position that made him instrumental in expanding the company's presence across the Russian, Eastern European, and Scandinavian markets -- before becoming director of business development.

Before joining MA Lighting, Kauppinen worked at PRG Distribution. His diverse background, which included working with theatres and touring with Finnish rock bands, gave him a unique perspective that he brought to every project. The statement of MA Lighting adds, "He was not just a professional; he was a true 'Lichtmensch' -- a passionate advocate for the power of light in storytelling and performance."

Kaupinnen died surrounded by family and friends. His final wish was to have his ashes scattered at sea, allowing him to continue to travel the world, one of the things he loved so much.
