Bandit Lights Biggest Winter Jam Ever

Winter Jam Tour Spectacular with Bandit Lites

When Pollstar announced the ticket sales for the first quarter of 2014, the number one most attended concert wasn't a pop star or a rock god, but instead a tour that makes ministry its main focus. The Winter Jam Tour Spectacular, or Winter Jam as it is popularly known, just capped off its most successful year ever, with more attendees than ever before and included performances by NewSong, Newsboys, Lecrae, Tenth Avenue North, Thousand Foot Krutch, and Plumb. Bandit Lites worked with production manager and lighting designer Jerry Holcomb to illuminate the event.

I tried to create an in-the-round end stage design, trying to leave as much line of sight as possible," explained Holcomb. "I used one 60' diameter circle truss, but I broke it into several sections and flew them at different heights. Because all the trusses were covered in LED strips on both the front and back, both the lighting techs and LED techs had to really work together to get the timing perfect."

Holcomb used Vari-Lite VL 3500 washes for their colors and to provide the "punch" through all the LED while Clay Paky Sharpys provided most of the up looks to create large beam patterns with tons of movement. Martin Auras were used as a color wash, while the Vipers, a first for the tour, boasted speed and great gobos. Lastly, a Syncrolite provided the effects for one of the acts.

"From initial design to end of tour I couldn't have been happier," said Holcomb of Bandit, "Great prep and preproduction with a terrific road crew."

Bandit crew included Erich Hudgins, Nick Dotson, and project manager Matt King.

"From the time of his initial concept to the finished product being on tour, it has truly been a pleasure to have the opportunity to work with Jerry Holcomb on Winter Jam," said Brent Barrett, Bandit's business development officer. "Also, high thanks are in order for Daniel Smallbone for his input and generous assistance with our crew! Winter Jam is a very special tour with which it is a high honor to be involved!"
