Brompton Technology, ROE Visual Partner with Avatar Concert Producer Unit1 Studio

The color accuracy and clarity of the Brompton and ROE Visual combination proved to be the critical final piece of the jigsaw.

Brompton Technology has partnered with Unit1 Studio, the world's first independent, end-to-end producer of avatar concerts, in collaboration with ROE Visual. Together, the three companies have harnessed Brompton's Tessera LED processing platform and ROE Visual's high-resolution LED screens to power Unit1 Studio's new developments in VFX and AI-enhanced CGI, enabling the creation of avatars of human artists with an unprecedented level of realism, the companies say.

Unit1 Studio launched with a mission to transport fans to legendary performances from artists they love. Until now, avatar-based concert experiences were prohibitively expensive to develop, and only the very highest-grossing artists could put on shows featuring avatar elements. Unit1 Studio fundamentally changes that equation. By dramatically reducing the cost of entry, the model becomes viable for many more artists, back catalogue owners, and visitor attractions.

As the first demonstration of its hyper-realistic avatar and production capabilities, Unit1 Studio collaborated with singer-songwriter KT Tunstall ahead of the 20th anniversary reissue of her breakthrough album, Eye To The Telescope. The showcase took place in Brompton Technology's West London demo space, where the combination of ROE Visual's Topaz 1.5mm LED screen and Brompton's Tessera SX40 4K LED processor provided the ideal environment for Unit1 Studio to explore the finer details of LED panel technology and discover the accuracy of Brompton's color tools and dynamic calibration firsthand.

The color accuracy and clarity of the Brompton and ROE Visual combination proved to be the critical final piece of the jigsaw. In a performance where something as minute as the gap between an artist's teeth and lips becomes a pivotal part of the storytelling, the accurate reproduction of colors is what keeps an audience's brain comfortable with what it is seeing. Details that viewers would never consciously notice, but would miss if they were wrong. Brompton's technical support team worked closely alongside Unit1 Studio throughout, offering advice on color pipelines, color spaces, and rendering options from the very beginning.

Asset creation and the color pipeline are central to Unit1 Studio's techniques, and Brompton Technology's Tessera processors are well equipped to support them. Tessera delivers HDR quality and highly accurate color management that is scalable and dynamic, ensuring no project is too small or too large. The future-proofed processing features available across Brompton's full range of Tessera processors mean every element of a performance can be delivered with seamless reliability.

"What separates the way we worked with ROE Visual and Brompton was their understanding that this was going to be time-consuming, but we all needed to work together to see where it could go," says Barney Wragg, CEO of Unit1 Studio. "There aren't many companies willing to do that, and Brompton's support team was there for us every step of the way."

"This project shows what can happen when technology and creativity are aligned from day one," adds Jonathan Sheard, managing director at ROE Visual UK. "ROE Visual's focus on precision and consistency gives creators the freedom to push realism to the limit, and we're proud to be part of opening a new chapter in immersive, avatar-led live performance."

"This is an area of technology that is a natural fit for Brompton and ROE Visual," concludes Rob Fowler, director of business development at Brompton Technology. "Just as in virtual production, realism is key, and the final 1% can be the difference between success and failure in selling the illusion. Working closely with the Unit1 Studio team from day one has been a genuinely rewarding experience, and we're excited about what this partnership can achieve."
