Tequila Town Miami Delivers Distributed Audio Design at Sprawling Immersive Experience with dBTechnologiesdBTechnologies has delivered a distributed audio system for Tequila Town Miami, a 25,000-sq.-ft. immersive, multi-room experience at Toledo Studios, where sound is treated as a continuous narrative element across a sequence of indoor and outdoor environments. Conceived as a journey through the heritage of tequila, Tequila Town moves guests through a series of spaces inspired by the landscapes and traditions of Jalisco -- from La Rojena, the birthplace of Jose Cuervo, to Lazaro Gallardo's hacienda and the Cristalino Cantina. Each environment carries its own pace, tone, and acoustic character, requiring a system approach that adapts in scale, output, and coverage while maintaining continuity across the broader experience. "The sound system was built through a layered approach that scales loudspeaker type, placement, and processing to match each environment," says Montana Masback, concept developer and strategic planner of Tequila Town Miami. The system, designed by Jorge Araiza of dBTechnologies and integrated by Jorge Matto with support from dBTechnologies sales rep firm for Florida: HWPco, was developed as a distributed network across a mix of small, medium, and large-format spaces. Modeling was carried out using EASE Focus 3, with Aurora Net providing system control and monitoring. "The venue is a complex place full of small and medium spaces...the geometry of the rooms and the materials used in the building favor the acoustics most of the time -- but each space still required careful control," Araiza explains. Hallways, foyers, and transitional spaces rely on dBTechnologies IS Series loudspeakers, including IS4T WP and IS6T WP passive two-way models, deployed with a focus on intelligibility, localization, and minimal visual impact. "The selection of the small speakers was planned to get the highest intelligibility possible, while remaining invisible, but also delivering all the soundscape detail needed," Masback notes. In practice, these systems are integrated into architectural and scenic elements, maintaining clarity for narration and environmental sound without drawing attention to themselves. Even in more acoustically challenging environments, such as the tasting room where reflective metal surfaces introduced complexity, the approach remained consistent: adjust the system, not the experience. "Specific DSP filters and placement adjustments were applied to maintain clarity, ensuring the room could support both atmosphere and conversation," says Araiza. As the experience opens into the distillery space, the system transitions to dBTechnologies Ingenia IG3TR loudspeakers. The column-based format provides controlled vertical dispersion, minimizing interaction with reflective surfaces while maintaining consistent tonal balance across the listening area. In this space, subwoofers were flown at a distance from the main arrays: "This presented some challenges that required delay and other processing adjustments," Araiza explains. The system was refined through processing to maintain coherence and imaging while preserving the visual integrity of the environment. In the Cristalino Club, a full-range reinforcement setup built around Opera Reevo 212 loudspeakers-a quasi three-way design with dual 12" woofers and a coaxial high-frequency element, delivering the output and definition required for music-forward programming -- supported by Sub 918 subwoofers was deployed. As the journey builds in energy, the system transitions from background support to maintaining clarity across melodic and layered material. The Mercado, one of the largest areas within Tequila Town, functions as both a social hub and a live performance space within a mostly outdoor environment. Here, dBTechnologies' Fifty Line system is deployed in a stacked configuration of one top over double subwoofers per side. "The system provides a balance of extremely high output, coverage, and deployment efficiency that aligns with both the acoustic demands and the spatial constraints of the Mercado...this is without a doubt where dBTechnologies kicks up the energy and allows the performances to shine," says Oliver Battaglia, eastern regional sales manager, dBTechnologies USA. At the opposite end of the Mercado, a relaxed indoor lounge environment is supported by Ingenia IG3TR systems; the column format provides precise vertical control, supporting both live elements and ambient programming with consistent tonal balance and controlled SPL. "Something that works for a more laid-back atmosphere, a setting that's perfect for an afternoon spent with tequila drinks," adds Masback. The temporary installation, built around an experiential format, required flexibility -- an external DSP processor was introduced to manage zoning and alignment across all environments, working in conjunction with Aurora Net control within IA Series amplification. Following installation, the system was refined under real-world conditions, including audience movement and full program operation. "After the initial installation...additional subs were placed, and fine-tuning of loudspeaker positions was carried out to refine system coherence," Araiza notes. Tequila Town positions sound as a structural element of the experience rather than an overlay. Smaller spaces maintain clarity and intimacy, while larger environments scale in dynamic energy without losing control, and transitions between rooms maintain spatial intent with tonal consistency. By integrating sound design from the outset, the project demonstrates a system approach where distributed audio, control infrastructure, and architectural integration operate as a single framework across a multi-room experiential environment.
