Eighteen Sound Announces 18iD High Performance Subwoofer

Eighteen Sound's 18iD extended low frequency neodymium transducer

Eighteen Sound announces the release of the 18iD extended low frequency neodymium transducer. The new subwoofer is engineered for maximum power transfer when operated with Class D and similar (iPal-compatible) amplifiers. The 18iD was shown at the Prolight + Sound show in Frankfurt, Germany last week.

Designed for vented and bandpass subwoofer cabinets, the subwoofer works best with amplifiers capable of delivering 2,600W (10,000W peak) of power. The company says the end result is clean and undistorted LF reproduction at ultra-high SPL with the lowest possible power compression.

The transducer features a state-of-the-art 5.3" inside-outside ISV (interleaved sandwich voice coil) voice coil which dissipates heat very effectively. A low-density material air diffractor placed into the heatsink acts as a cooling system, increasing the power handling capability and lowering the power compression figure.

The 18iD is able to perform properly under inclement weather conditions, utilizing an exclusive cone treatment that provides water repellent properties to both sides of the cone. A special coating applied to both the top and back plates makes the transducer far more resistant to the corrosive effects of salts and oxidization.

The iPal-compatible 18iD is a powerful subwoofer with extended low frequency and extraordinary acoustic power with high transient behavior.
