Bellevue Lighting Completes Landmark Renovation at Kirkland Performance Center Bellevue Lighting + Stage (BLS), a production and systems integration company, announces the successful completion of a comprehensive stage renovation at the Kirkland Performance Center (KPC). Serving as both the general contractor and theatrical systems integrator, BLS partnered with Batten & Light Studios on the intensive two-month project that was completed at the end of August. Achieving one of the fastest turnarounds for a full rigging system replacement in the region. The core upgrade replaced the landmark venue's aging counterweight rigging system with a modern motorized system. This new system features 37 motorized Prodigy hoists by Electronic Theatre Controls (ETC), marking this the first installation of this type of hoisting system in the Seattle region. This upgrade provides KPC the precision, safety, and versatility required for modern productions. "The ETC Prodigy rigging system upgrade will expand the venue's ability to quickly reconfigure the stage for a wide range of events, increasing scheduling capacity while upholding the highest standards of crew safety and well-being," says Thomas Cowdery, principal of Batten & Light Studios. Additionally, BLS oversaw the installation of the first Harlequin Liberty Switch stage system in North America. This flexible flooring is said to provide unmatched agility, instantly transitioning between a cushioned sprung dance floor mode and a rigid mode optimized for theatrical performances. Mari Cannon, director of production and operations of KPC adds, "This new system drastically increases crew safety and makes it possible to support client's artistic visions and on-site adjustments." "The Prodigy EXO allowed for wide adaptability. The flexibility streamlined the design process and allowed BLS to have the freedom to use the same hoist in many different configurations," says Jerry Kraft, western regional sales manager of ETC. The renovation spanned the entire stage, addressing concrete leveling, custom steel fabrication, new stage supports, and replacement of all soft goods. Local ETC representative, Pacific Lighting Systems, provided crucial product expertise. With the technical renovations complete, BLS is continuing its partnership with KPC by designing and installing a new lighting and control system this winter.
