SILV Student Body Goes International

Uzma Sabeen, from The National Academy of Performing Arts of Pakistan (NAPA) , first came to the Stage Institute of Las Vegas (SILV) as a fellowship participant in the International Cultural Exchange Visitor Program for Theatrical Designers that was sponsored by The John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts and the Department of State Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs in 2010.

Sabeen will re-join SILV this summer for the four-week lighting focus segment of SILV 2013. Sabeen earned her masters degree in English literature and a three years diploma in theatre arts from NAPA as a student in their first class.

As one of few people in Pakistan who has the proper training in this discipline, Sabeen was appointed as coordinator and faculty member and has designed and documented the curriculum of the academy, sharing her contributions in the repertory theatre as a lighting designer, costume designer, stage manager, and director.

Sabeen said: "On my return to my homeland, I worked to share my knowledge and experience with my students. I introduced some new courses in our curriculum such as production fundamentals and costume design. I also planned and then directed the production of an original script KAFKA in which we could incorporate live performance with multimedia projections. Happily the play was critically acclaimed in the print media and among the theatrical groups."
