Martin Professional Announces Strategic Partnership with the Royal Albert Hall

"With so many lighting designers passing through the Royal Albert Hall each month, we need to have fixtures that designers know and want," says Thomas.

Martin Professional, a HARMAN Professional Solutions brand, has announced a strategic partnership with London's iconic Royal Albert Hall, creating a closer collaboration between manufacturer and venue that will help shape future lighting technology development.

The partnership creates a direct feedback loop between real-world applications and product design, providing Martin with insight from one of the world's most demanding venues while supporting the Royal Albert Hall's continued investment in advanced lighting systems across a diverse global program.

Jon Vivash, lighting operations manager, Royal Albert Hall comments, "Working with an industry leader such as Martin Professional allows us to stay at the forefront of lighting technology. By helping to maintain the Royal Albert Hall's status as an iconic venue with such a demanding schedule of productions from around the world, we rely on solid, innovative and fast-paced technology developers. As we continue our sustainability initiatives, the demand for lower power consumption, alongside brighter and more feature-rich fixtures, has become increasingly important. Martin has consistently met these requirements throughout our upgrades over the last three years."

The Royal Albert Hall maintains a substantial Martin Professional inventory, comprising MAC Ultra Performance, ELP PAR, MAC Aura XIP, MAC Encore Performance CLD, and MAC Viper Wash DX fixtures in the main auditorium. MAC Ones, ERA 400 Performance CLD, and ELP CL Profiles can be found in a smaller performance space in the building.

Richard Thomas, lighting designer, Royal Albert Hall, adds, "With so many lighting designers passing through the Royal Albert Hall each month, we need to have fixtures that designers know and want," Thomas also comments. "The flexibility of our Martin fixtures allows the rig to adapt to almost any designer's requirements."

The MAC Ultra Performance fixtures play a critical role in the Hall's long-throw lighting positions, delivering saturated colors, precise focus and advanced beam-shaping capabilities. Equally important is their low operational noise, allowing the venue to support spoken-word events, film screenings, orchestral performances and live broadcasts without compromising the audience's listening experience.

The Martin ELP PAR fixtures provide lighting designers with a versatile solution for adding color throughout the auditorium. Their zoom capabilities have proved particularly effective for creating ACL-style looks for rock and pop productions, while their output and flexibility have enabled the venue to illuminate the auditorium for broadcast applications without the need for additional fixtures.

The MAC Aura XIP fixtures form part of the venue's deployable floor package, giving designers the flexibility to introduce dynamic visual effects wherever required. Their compact footprint and versatility allow them to move easily between the Royal Albert Hall's various performance spaces, serving as either wash fixtures or eye-candy elements, the company says.

The venue's commitment to maintaining a world-class house rig is also reflected in the expectations of the many visiting lighting designers who return to the Hall year after year.

"Many returning LDs know what we have, and if we have upgraded, they know to expect a high-quality fixture that will provide compatibility with what they have used before, while offering something more each time -- and we see that in Martin products," notes Vivash.

Beyond product performance, the Royal Albert Hall places significant importance on long-term reliability and manufacturer support.

"At the Royal Albert Hall, our equipment is chosen not only for its features and performance, but also for manufacturer support and training," Vivash says. "With nearly 400 events annually, we expect a lifespan of at least ten years for our fixtures. Maintenance has become really simple, and the modular build of all the fixtures is fantastic."

Looking ahead, the new partnership will enable the Royal Albert Hall to play a more active role in the development of future Martin Professional products, helping to ensure that emerging technologies continue to meet the evolving needs of the live event industry.

"Working with Martin, we can have input into new products and act as a real-world validation environment during development, sharing the industry requirements placed upon us as a venue to help inform future products," Vivash adds.

Chris Munn, UK, Ireland, and Italy account manager, Martin Professional, comments, "Our partnership with the Royal Albert Hall is about more than supplying world-class lighting technology -- it's about supporting exceptional performances in one of the world's most iconic venues. With the MAC Ultra Performance, ELP PAR and MAC Aura XIP fixtures, the Hall has a versatile lighting solution that delivers the precision, flexibility and reliability needed across its diverse program of events. Seeing these fixtures play such a central role in bringing performances to life is a testament to Martin's commitment to enabling creative excellence. We look forward to continuing our partnership by supporting the Hall with the latest innovations in lighting technology, helping ensure it remains equipped to inspire audiences for years to come."

Olivia Sangster-Bullers, head of production and technical at the Royal Albert Hall, concludes: "The Royal Albert Hall is an iconic venue where music, culture and history come together. Lighting helps the Hall feel like a place of wonder -- a space where artists are supported to deliver their best and audiences feel they are part of something extraordinary. From our perspective, this partnership brings together two industry leaders to foster a new conversation surrounding venue dynamics and lighting technology."
