Initial Howell Binkley Fellow Announced

Kat Zhou

The Howell Binkley Fellowship Program announces Kat Zhou (katzhoudesign.com) as its inaugural Fellow for the 2021 - 2022 season. Zhous recently received her MFA in design from Boston University and holds a BA in mathematics from Harvard.

According to a statement from the program, Zhou "was drawn to the transformative power of lighting, its capacity to tell meaningful stories, and to change the way people see things. Kat is excited for the opportunity to absorb all aspects of theatrical lighting design at the professional level from Howell Binkley's associates, Ryan O'Gara and Amanda Zieve. She hopes to be based in New York in the near future and can't wait to meet the NYC lighting community."

The program adds, "Please join us in congratulating Kat as she takes the next step in her career. We feel very fortunate that she came to us at this pivotal time to begin the growth of this program that honors the life and legacy of lighting designer, Howell Binkley. We know Howell would have been delighted to meet her and help shape her career."

Created in partnership with the Hemsley Lighting Programs, the Fellowship honors Howell Binkley's legacy of mentorship by providing the extra "push" and assistance in fostering the next generation of theatrical lighting designers as they begin their careers.
