Rachel Levy and Eric Southern Join Lightswitch Chicago

Rachel Levy and Eric Southern, Lightswitch Chicago

Lightswitch announces two new additions to its Chicago studio. Senior designers Rachel Levy and Eric Southern recently joined the team to focus on architectural projects. Both designers are incredibly talented and bring a diverse portfolio of experience.

Levy shares her varied background in architecture, theater, music, and television with the practice. Her work has been featured in many theatres and buildings throughout the country, including the Chicago River's Art on the Mart. Levy received her BFA in dance from Tulane University and an MFA in lighting design from the California Institute of Arts. Her background in dance and theatre influence many of her designs by creating unified stories and environments that inspire emotional connections with an overarching theme of sustainability. Lightswitch reports the company "is thrilled to have rachel as part of our team."

Lightswitchis also pleased to welcome back award-winning lighting and set designer, Southern. Previously, Southern was a part of the Lightswitch New York team and recently relocated to Chicago to become an assistant professor in the MFA design program at Northwestern University. With a background in theatre, opera, and dance, Southern's work has been featured on the international stage, as well as renowned venues in the US; including Lincoln Center, The Kennedy Center, Carnegie Hall, and The Guthrie Theatre. Across all disciplines, Southern's work focuses on the personal experience of space through light. He holds a BFA in theatre from NYU and an MFA in set and lighting design, also from NYU.
